Hello Foodie Friends, it was just last month that I was invited to visit a little hidden gem South of Fifth in Miami Beach called Santorini by Georgios and I am already dreaming of my next visit back!  It was a gorgeous day that my friend Laura and I visited and the only thing better than the weather was the hospitality, food and ambience.  The spacious, indoor/outdoor restaurant tucked ay inside the Hilton Bentley was entirely redone with outdoor, poolside and beachside service available.

Santorini by Georgios restaurant presents authentic, fresh Greek and Mediterranean cuisine that is locally sourced and fresh seafood is caught daily. Executive Chef, Owner and Creator Georgios Vogiatzis offers a menu of recognizable, yet creative dishes for breakfast, lunch, dinner and weekend brunch in a lively, upscale-casual pool and beachside atmosphere complimented by friendly and professional service.

Santorini by Georgios prides itself on defining what true quality food is with their fresh cuisine, in addition to exceeding every one of their customers’ expectations. Whether it’s a girls’ afternoon luncheon (which is what Laura & I came for), an after work happy hour get together, or a romantic dinner for two, Santorini by Georgios will make sure the challenge to delight their clients is met.

To complement each dish, Georgios has created a refreshing selection of cocktails with in-house made purees and infusions. The beverage program includes full beer and wine lists, as well as large exotic fruit cocktails sold in unique hollowed-out pieces of fruit, such as pineapples and watermelons. (We tried the Pineapple but we had our eye on the Watermelon which I’m sure we’ll try the next time we’re there). The “Giant Bowl” menu also consists of beautifully crafted cocktails in bowls large enough to share – perfect for taking that “I’m on vacation” Instagram photo.

BRIO Announces Promotion of “A Variety of Flavors” Lunch & Dinner Menu

Hello Foodie Friends,

I was recently invited back to BRIO for a tasting of some new menu items and to share with you a new promotion that they have going on in all their Palm Beach County locations now through April 15th.  I’ll get to the promotion in a minute. On this particular dine, my companion and I who have eaten at BRIO on several occasions decided to start out with a “Flirty Cosmo” which is made with absolute Mandarin, pama, pomegranate liquor, fresh lime and fizz 56. It was a delicious cocktail and one we both would recommend.

We decided to try the Burrata & Ciabatta appetizer which was beautifully plated and was a wonderful combination of creamy burrata, roasted tomatoes, EVOO and grilled ciabatta for $10.95. I enjoyed building my own bruschetta by layering the tomatoes onto the ciabatta and topping with the creamy burrata. I was in heaven!

Our server Jake was a huge fan of their Brussels sprouts, claiming these are the very ones that got him to eat brussels sprouts. With a recommendation like that, how could we not try them as well? We asked him to bring us a side of these which he graciously offered to do, although now that I’m writing this, I only see it listed as a side option to their entrees. The Maple Balsamic Brussels Sprouts were very tasty and I would highly recommend you try them.

For entrees, my companion had the Center-Cut Filet Mignon (Comes in 6 oz. $24.75 & 8 oz. $29.50) and comes with one side. He chose the Yukon Gold Mashed Potatoes. My companion ordered his steak medium rare but it came out pretty rare, so we did ask for a bump up. I would recommend […]

2017 Junior League Boca Raton Flavors Event

Hello Foodie Friends,

I apologize for the delay in bringing you my recap of Flavors 2017 as I have been so extremely busy this season. Nonetheless, I couldn’t be more excited to share this info with you and hope that if you did not attend this year’s event, that you will be inspired to book your tickets early for next year’s.

The Junior League of Boca Raton held their annual culinary event, Flavors, on February 2nd, 2017. Located at The Addison, a spectacular venue in downtown Boca Raton, the evening included a delicious array of wines, spirits, an open bar, and savory samplings from local restaurants.

As an invited member of the press, I had the opportunity to go in and sample the amazing array of flavors personally. I have been to a few of their events in the past and I must say that this was the best one yet, in terms of venue and quantity and quality of participating vendors. Congrats to everyone involved in creating such a fabulous event, spectacularly chaired by Meg Fielder and Emily Ghijselinck. This year’s Flavors event raised $29,600, and had a sold out crowd of 600 people. Funds raised through Flavors directly support the Junior League of Boca Raton’s mission of promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women and improving the community.  The dedication of the Flavors committee as well as the many Junior League of Boca Raton volunteers made this event a huge success.

Patrick Duffy, of The Addison, was the Executive Chef of the evening. The Junior League of Boca Raton was proud to have the following restaurants participate this year: The Addison, Anthony’s Coal Fire Pizza, Allstar Gourmet Cupcakes,  Atlantic Avenue Beverage, Bacon Box, Barrel of Monks Brewery, Buddha Sky Bar, Bolay, Café Med, Chops Boca, Corner Bakery, […]

The World’s First Banini Was Created…

Dear Foodie Friends,

A Banini, you ask? Certainly.  The magnificent union of a bagel and a hot fresh pressed panini. It’s not only brilliant, but it’s delicious! I was invited for a tasting of a variety of banini, amongst other delicious items at the Brooklyn Water Bagel Company, the brand behind this creation, at their Fifth Avenue Shops location on Federal Highway in Boca Raton.

The Aha Moment

The aha moment struck one fateful Thanksgiving dinner when Steve Fassberg realized the recipe for success had been there all along. The seeds for Brooklyn Water Bagel and replicating that New York bagel were actually planted early on in his childhood. For Fassberg, creating the ideal bagel began the moment it clicked: “It’s all about the water.”

Precious Cargo

At the age of 13, Brooklyn-born Steve Fassberg trekked from Massapequa, New York to Miami, Florida, hauling bags full of NY bagels in the plane’s overhead compartment. He was bringing the Big Apple staples to his grandparents, whom upon seeing Fassberg exclaimed not “hello,” but “did you bring the bagels?!” Fassberg’s grandparents hadn’t eaten a good one since leaving New York and it was because the quality of water in Florida, they reasoned, didn’t match that of the New York water they had been accustomed to. New York water and its properties created that perfectly crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside combination.

The Beginning

The bagel visionary, a larger than life personality, cut his teeth in the world of entrepreneurship earlier than most. During the day, he poured his hours into banking and working with mortgage financing. At night he moonlighted as a restaurateur. By the age of only 21, he had saved up $80,000, just enough to open his very first […]

Taste Atlantic Avenue

Savor Our City covered some great Delray mainstays on its Taste of Atlantic Avenue tour on Nov. 26.

City Oyster

You would think that a restaurant with “Oyster” in its name would only have a decent seafood selection, but the breakfast panini we sampled proved that brunch is also one of this eatery’s prime games. The pesto and mozzarella beautifully complemented the egg and pieces of bacon.

The Bloody Mary was scary good – the kind of good that happens when you can barely taste the alcohol in the drink. City Oyster knows how to blend great drinks with delectable entrées.

The Office

At The Office, we tried the Prime CEO Burger with parmesan truffle fries. The bacon and arugula on the burger brought out the tenderness of the patty, and the fries had all the greasy, truffle-y goodness you could want.

The best way to make vegetables delicious is, of course, by adding meat, and the Brussel’s sprouts with bacon turned out to be a great side.

Delray Beach GreenMarket

Gratitude Garden Farm, located in Loxahatchee, showed our group the benefits of eating microgreens such as sunflower seed sprouts and pea sprouts. These delicious plants would go well in a salad or just as a snack.

The siblings behind Frik & Frak Artisanal Sauces offered delicious batches of their homemade tomato sauces, including Holla Vodka and Cognac. The GreenMarket truly showcases the best of what Palm Beach County local cuisine has to offer. Check it out every Saturday through May 20 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Old School Square Park.

The Old Arcade

Known as The Arcade Tap Room in 1908, The Old Arcade started out as a secret watering hole for patrons during the Prohibition era. Hidden in and only […]

Pig-sty BBQ in Boynton Beach brings melt-in-your-mouth BBQ to South Florida at an affordable price

Pig-sty BBQ in Boynton Beach brings melt-in-your-mouth BBQ to South Florida at an affordable price

Hello Foodie Friends,
Today I am here to tell you about an awesome new BBQ restaurant called Pig-sty BBQ, which recently opened after a complete overhaul of the current space on Boynton Beach Blvd, just west of 95, by my friends Elliot Harris and award-winning Pitmaster Chef Bryan Tyrell.
Elliot and Chef Bryan teamed up to open this their first/flagship Pig-sty BBQ in Boynton Beach, FL with plans to open two additional locations in South Florida by the end of the 2017.  They are passionate about South Florida development, and their vision is to grow alongside the community. “We built Pigsty to bring affordable quality food to the people of South Florida in a fun environment. Bring the kids, bring friends, have a beer and enjoy true classic BBQ prepared by our rock star BBQ chef,” stated Harris.

Pigsty BBQ is also a feast for the eyes. Aaron Moreno, of Palm Beach Driftwood, transformed the interior using 100 percent reclaimed wood to capture the true feel of a Southern BBQ joint. Harris, an accomplished artist, lined the wall with some of his favorite movie quotes and original pieces of art from his collection. The staff is friendly and accommodating, and the food melts in your mouth. Live bands perform every Thursday through Saturday with a top-notch state-of-the-art sound and lighting system. Pigsty BBQ is open seven days per week for lunch and dinner. The menu will expand to breakfast in early 2017.

Parents are raving about the options for children. Harris, being a father of three, knows that eating out with small children can be a challenge. It is for this reason that he created the kid’s corner. It offers a virtual gaming system where kids can choose […]

GourmetPhile

-phile:  a suffix, denoting fondness for a specified thing; one that loves, admires, or is attracted to a specified thing.
Hello Foodie Friends,

Today I am here to share with you my latest Boca Food Find and that is GourmetPhile. As the definition above connotes, I am a GourmetPhile, a lover and admirer with a deep fondness  & passion for food, particularly of the gourmet variety and GourmetPhile, the newest gourmet specialty market to open in Royal Palm Place in Downtown Boca, which satisfies my foodie cravings in every way.

I have been waiting for this store to open for a very long time and was thrilled to be asked to work with them to assemble some of the area’s social media influencers and Concierge for some special tasting events.

Their Story  GourmetPhile is the love child of Blair and Zhanna Leavell. Zhanna was formerly a university professor of mathematics in St Petersburg, Russia, and Blair owned a software consulting firm. It must have been love at first sight for the two, who were introduced by one of Blair’s employees, as they were married just a few months after meeting.  Zhanna, having difficulty finding work in her own field teaching mathematics here in the US, worked as a distributor of gourmet food items across Florida. Zhanna and Blair ended up becoming quite involved with gourmet food, attending fancy food shows around the country, etc. and decided they wanted to do something fun and entrepreneurial together that reflected their expanding interest in fine food. A little over a year ago they formed GourmetPhile and broke ground on this beautifully appointed new store.

Their Vision  to be a one stop shop for everything amazingly delicious from all over the world that you can’t find at […]

Beach Park Cafe

Hello Foodie Friends,

When’s the last time you took a trip to Lithuania? Well if you’re like me, never. Fortunately, I have discovered a cute little Cafe that just opened up in East Boca, just steps away from the beach and now you can taste a little of Lithuania (and European fare) without having to take a transatlantic flight.

Beach Park Cafe is owned by Lithuanian husband and wife, Vaidas and Luiza who had previously been in the wholesale distribution business overseas for 20 years. With the help of their daughter Egle who handles the company’s social media marketing as well working there at the Cafe a couple days a week to relieve her parents, along with Chef Anthony who was brought in to help out in the small open kitchen, the team work together efficiently to bring the customers in and convert them into loyal repeat customers, one bite at a time, and it’s working!

Earlier this week, I had the opportunity to bring a friend with me to try the place out for lunch. It was just before noon when we arrived and the place was quiet, a couple other tables inside and one or two more outside. We immediately met the owners, Vaidas and Luiza and they showed us to a table. We discussed some tasting options and off went Vaidas to the kitchen while Luiza stayed behind and talked with us openly about their journey that brought them to owning this cute little Cafe in Boca Raton, FL.

We started off with teas (iced for my companion) and hot for myself, although they are known for their great coffees…

While we were waiting for our first tasting course to come out, we were delivered samples of […]
