Hello Foodie Friends,

July 14th marks a special occasion for food lovers across the United States—National Mac and Cheese Day. This beloved dish, with its creamy, cheesy goodness, holds a special place in American culinary tradition. From humble beginnings to gourmet variations, macaroni and cheese has evolved into a versatile and universally adored comfort food.

The origins of macaroni and cheese can be traced back to the 13th century in Italy, where a recipe for pasta and cheese was documented in the medieval cookbook “Liber de Coquina.” This early version of the dish featured pasta tossed with grated cheese, a precursor to the modern mac and cheese. However, it wasn’t until the 18th century that the dish began to resemble what we know today.

Thomas Jefferson, the third President of the United States, is often credited with popularizing mac and cheese in America. During his travels to Europe, Jefferson encountered the dish and was so enamored with it that he brought back a pasta machine to the United States. He served macaroni and cheese at a state dinner in 1802, introducing it to American palates.

The dish gained widespread popularity during the Great Depression, when Kraft Foods introduced its boxed macaroni and cheese in 1937. The affordable, convenient meal became a household staple, providing families with a delicious and budget-friendly dinner option. Since then, mac and cheese has continued to evolve, with countless variations and gourmet interpretations emerging over the years.

Mac and cheese is more than just a dish; it is a symbol of comfort, nostalgia, and togetherness. For many, it evokes fond memories of family gatherings, holiday dinners, and childhood meals. The creamy, cheesy texture and rich flavor make it the ultimate comfort food, providing solace and satisfaction with every bite.

To truly elevate your mac and cheese experience, pairing it with the right beverage is key. The rich, creamy, and cheesy nature of mac and cheese can be complemented and enhanced by a variety of drinks, from wine to beer to cocktails. Here are some ideal pairings to consider:

Wine Pairing

Chardonnay is a classic choice to pair with mac and cheese, especially a creamy, rich version. The buttery texture and oak notes of a good Chardonnay complement the cheesy and creamy aspects of the dish perfectly. Look for a lightly oaked or unoaked Chardonnay with bright acidity to cut through the richness of the mac and cheese without overwhelming it.

Beer Pairing

An IPA (India Pale Ale) pairs wonderfully with mac and cheese, providing a nice contrast to the dish’s richness. The hoppy bitterness and floral notes of an IPA can cut through the creamy cheese sauce, refreshing your palate with each sip. If you’re adding spicy elements or strong flavors like bacon or BBQ pulled pork to your mac and cheese, the robust flavor profile of an IPA will stand up well to those additions.

Cocktail Pairing

A Classic Whiskey Sour is an excellent cocktail choice for mac and cheese. The combination of whiskey, fresh lemon juice, and a touch of sweetness from simple syrup creates a refreshing and balanced drink that complements the richness of the dish. The acidity from the lemon juice helps cut through the creamy cheese, while the whiskey adds a warming depth of flavor.

National Mac and Cheese Day is the perfect opportunity to indulge in this classic comfort food and explore its many variations. Invite friends and family over for a mac and cheese-themed party. Set up a mac and cheese bar with various types of pasta, cheeses, and toppings, allowing guests to customize their own creations. Take your Mac and Cheese into the next level by experimenting with gourmet recipes. Try using artisanal cheeses like Gruyère, fontina, or blue cheese for a sophisticated twist.

Many restaurants offer special mac and cheese dishes on their menus. Take this opportunity to support local eateries and try their unique takes on this classic dish. Whether it’s a food truck or a fine dining establishment, you’re sure to find delicious and innovative versions of mac and cheese.

National Mac and Cheese Day on July 14th is a celebration of one of America’s most beloved comfort foods. From its rich historical roots to its cultural significance and endless culinary possibilities, mac and cheese continues to bring joy to tables across the nation. Whether you stick to a classic recipe or experiment with gourmet ingredients, there’s no wrong way to enjoy this dish. Pair it with a glass of Chardonnay, a cold IPA, or a refreshing Whiskey Sour to elevate your dining experience. So gather your loved ones, get creative in the kitchen, and savor every cheesy bite as you honor this delicious holiday.

Happy National Mac and Cheese Day!

Until we eat (and drink) again…

I send you Delicious Wishes, xo

Hello Foodie Friends,

July is a month of warmth, sunshine, and the bountiful harvest of one of nature’s most delightful fruits—blueberries. Designated as National Blueberry Month, July celebrates the tiny, vibrant berry that packs a punch of flavor, nutrition, and versatility. From its historical roots to its health benefits and culinary uses, blueberries have earned their place as a beloved fruit.

Blueberries are native to North America, where they have been enjoyed for thousands of years. Indigenous peoples in North America were the first to recognize the value of wild blueberries, using them for food, medicine, and even as a fabric dye. They referred to the berry as “star berries” due to the five-pointed star shape formed at the blossom end of the fruit.

The cultivation of blueberries began in the early 20th century, thanks to the efforts of Elizabeth Coleman White and Dr. Frederick V. Coville. White, a New Jersey farmer, and Coville, a USDA botanist, worked together to domesticate wild blueberries. Their pioneering work led to the development of the cultivated highbush blueberry varieties that we enjoy today.

Blueberries are often referred to as a superfood, and for good reason. These small berries are packed with essential nutrients and antioxidants that offer numerous health benefits.

The blueberry industry is a significant contributor to the agricultural economy in the United States. Blueberries are grown in many states, with the largest producers being Michigan, Oregon, Washington, Georgia, and New Jersey. The industry supports thousands of jobs, from farm workers to processors and distributors.

In recent years, the demand for blueberries has grown steadily, driven by increasing awareness of their health benefits and versatility in culinary applications. Blueberries are used in a wide range of products, including fresh fruit, frozen berries, juices, jams, baked goods, and dietary supplements.

As a foodie expert, I am thrilled to share with you five delightful blueberry recipes that will elevate your culinary celebrations for National Blueberry Month. Each recipe showcases the versatility and vibrant flavor of this superfruit, making it easy to incorporate blueberries into every meal of the day. From a refreshing breakfast parfait to a decadent dessert, these recipes are designed to bring out the best in blueberries, highlighting their natural sweetness and nutritional benefits. Whether you’re looking for a wholesome start to your morning or a sweet treat to end your day, these blueberry dishes are sure to impress and satisfy. Blueberries have a significant cultural impact beyond their nutritional value and economic importance. They are featured in various cultural traditions, festivals, and folklore. In many communities, blueberry festivals are held during the summer months, celebrating the harvest with music, food, and family-friendly activities.

National Blueberry Month in July is a time to celebrate one of nature’s most delightful and nutritious fruits. Blueberries’ rich history, numerous health benefits, and economic significance make them a cherished part of American culture. Whether you pick your own blueberries, try new recipes, or simply enjoy them fresh, there are countless ways to honor this superfruit. As you savor the sweet and tangy flavor of blueberries, remember the journey from wild berries to cultivated crops and the joy they bring to our tables.

Hello Foodie Friends,

July 1st marks a special day for food lovers everywhere – National French Fry Day! This beloved dish, enjoyed by millions worldwide, transcends cultural boundaries and brings people together. Whether you prefer them crispy or soft, seasoned or plain, French fries are a universal comfort food with a fascinating history and endless variations.

Contrary to what the name might suggest, French fries did not originate in France. Their history is a matter of some debate, with both France and Belgium laying claim to their invention. The Belgians argue that they were the first to fry thin strips of potatoes as early as the late 1600s, while the French contend that the dish became popular in Parisian cafes in the 1700s. Regardless of their true origin, French fries have become a global sensation.

One of the reasons French fries are so beloved is their remarkable versatility, allowing them to adapt and transform into a myriad of unique variations enjoyed across the globe. From the double-fried perfection of Belgian fries to the indulgent poutine of Canada, each culture adds its own twist, showcasing the endless possibilities of this universally cherished dish. Here are some unique variations from around the world:

Belgium

Known for their double-fried method, Belgian fries are crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. They are typically served with a variety of sauces, from classic mayonnaise to adventurous flavors like Andalouse and Samurai.

France

In their homeland, French fries, or “pommes frites,” are often enjoyed with steak or mussels. The French take pride in their cooking technique, ensuring each fry is perfectly crisp.

United States

From fast food joints to gourmet restaurants, French fries are a staple in American cuisine. Variations like curly fries, waffle fries, and cheese fries showcase the creativity and love for this dish in the U.S.

Canada

Our neighbors to the north have their own special take on French fries – poutine. This indulgent dish consists of fries topped with cheese curds and smothered in gravy, creating a deliciously messy and satisfying meal.

United Kingdom

Known as “chips,” British fries are thicker than their American counterparts and are often served with fish. The classic fish and chips combo is a quintessential British dish.

Creating the perfect French fry is both an art and a science. The key to achieving that ideal balance of crispy exterior and fluffy interior lies in the type of potato used, the cutting technique, and the cooking method. Russet potatoes, known for their high starch content and low moisture, are often considered the best for frying. The potatoes are typically cut into uniform strips to ensure even cooking. Many chefs swear by the double-frying method: first frying the potatoes at a lower temperature to cook them through, and then a second fry at a higher temperature to achieve that irresistible crispiness.

While French fries are traditionally deep-fried, there are many healthier alternatives for those looking to enjoy this treat without the guilt. Baking or air frying can significantly reduce the amount of oil used, resulting in a lighter yet still delicious fry.

Sweet potatoes offer a nutritious twist with their rich flavor and higher levels of vitamins and fiber. For an extra boost of flavor, try seasoning your fries with herbs and spices like rosemary, paprika, or garlic powder.

French fries have not only made their mark on our taste buds but also on popular culture. They are a staple in fast food chains, a frequent feature in movies and television shows, and even the subject of art and music. Their universal appeal is evident in how they bridge gaps between different cuisines and dining experiences, from street food to fine dining. French fries have become a symbol of comfort and indulgence, embodying the simple pleasure of enjoying good food.

National French Fry Day is more than just a celebration of a delicious snack; it’s a tribute to a culinary icon that brings joy to people of all ages and backgrounds. Whether you’re a purist who loves them with just a sprinkle of salt or an adventurer who enjoys them loaded with toppings, French fries have a special place in our hearts and on our plates. So, on July 1st, let’s raise a fry and toast to this crispy delight!

Happy National French Fry Day!

Until we eat again…

I send you Delicious Wishes, xo

Hello Foodie Friends,

I feel like another confessional coming on: Forgive me for its been way too long since my last post. Life just has a habit of sometimes getting in the way of keeping my writings as current as I’d like them to be. But I promise, as always, to deliver you our latest Food Finds (new restaurant openings, menu updates, food & wine festivals, charity galas, product reviews and recipes, and destination travel).

Today’s post is on The Venu (www.TheLocalVenu.com), an upscale and intimate restaurant, bar & entertainment destination that recently opened in Boynton Beach, FL. Open daily from 11am – 3am, offering lunch, brunch (Sundays 11am – 3pm) Happy Hour starting at 4pm and dinner featuring live music throughout the week and every weekend. You can find a complete schedule of all their shows and ticket info on their website and facebook pages. The Venu is outfitted with a 200″ projector screen and a 22′ X 20′ stage and showroom, along with a state-of-the-art sound and light system. Expect to see talent from all over the world playing on this stage, representing every genre from funk and soul to rock, reggae, DJs, comedy, Broadway acts and more.

The Venu has brought on Executive Chef Kelley Randall (previously head chef at Vic & Angelo’s and The Office in Delray Beach) to run the kitchen. He is a highly regarded and well-known master of inspired farm-fresh cuisine who incorporates locally sourced ingredients to create imaginative menus for lunch, brunch dinner and showtime.  All pastas and desserts are crafted in-house daily and all dishes are prepared from the scratch kitchen. Chef Kelley’s take on Italian and modern European fare is highlighted by such signature dishes as the Wild Boar Pappardelle, Frutti Di Mare, Coq Au Vin, 1855 Ranch Ribeye, Stuffed Portabella Mushroom, Waygu Beef Carpaccio, Grilled Octopus, PEI Mussels Provencal and much more including daily specials.

I had the great pleasure of trying several of these and other signature dishes at a recent Media event.

The preset menu was divided into sections: Under “Let’s Begin”, we sampled the Wagyu Beef Carpaccio and the Meatballs Al Forno.

Wagyu Beef Carpaccio – fried caper aioli, baby greens, grissini, parmigiano-reggiano

Every well thought out component came together to create a harmonious dish. The Wagyu beef just melts in your mouth and the fried caper aioli provides an added layer of umami. By the way, in case you didn’t know what grissini was when you were reading my description up above, do not fret; I didn’t either, so I looked it up and here’s what it is: breadsticks, lol! Thin crispy Italian breadsticks.

Meatballs Al Forno – made with bison & pork, ricotta salata, garden basil and San Marzano sauce

It wasn’t but a few months ago that I tried bison for the first time on one of our tours in Sanford where I had the most delicious bison burger at The Smiling Bison. So I was super excited to see this meatball at The Venu contained bison in their mixture. The meatballs were delicious there’s no doubt about that, although I don’t know that I could really detect the bison.

Moving on to the next section, under “Greens” we got to try their Pear & Cream and House Crafted Pasta.

Pear & Cream – Burrata, poached pear, baby greens, balsamic of Modena

This whimsical salad was filled with my all time favorite cheeses, the burrata. I swear, if you’re anything like me, once you try burrata, it’s hard to go back to regular ol’ mozzarella. It is the king of all mozzarellas in my humble opinion. Anyway, I must say this dish was creatively assembled; never before had I seen poached pear served with burrata. Each of the items on the dish was treated with finesse while the balsamic drizzle brought them all together harmoniously.

Wild Boar Pappardelle – broad pasta, 14 hour shoulder, Italian feta, citrus aromas

My favorite dish of the evening was this wild boar pappardelle. From the moment it was placed in front of me, the waft of orange zest made it’s way up the olfactory, tingling and tantalizing my tastebuds beckoning me to consume my first bite. O-M-G! The boar was so tender and flavorful and the pappardelle was cooked to perfection. The saltiness from the feta was a unique and welcome addition as well. You must try this dish.

Innovative and tasty cocktails were served thoughout the night…

Under the “Paramount” section, we were given the Seared Sea Scallops and Chicken Francaise to try.

Seared Sea Scallops – summer carrot puree, fried artichokes, white wine reduction

Did you know that summer carrots are sweeter than fall carrots? Neither did I. I learned this fun little fact from Chef Kelley when he introduced the dish. The sweet carrot puree was a terrific choice to accompany the perfectly cooked scallops.

Chicken Francaise – fried artichoke hearts, capers, tomatoes, linguine, lemon butter

This dish was rich and contained all of the key components of a classic Chicken Francaise plus some original nuances such as the fried artichoke hearts, adding yet another flavorful dimension.

“To Finish” we had the tiramisu and a House Crafted Cookie Plate

Tiramisu – sweetened mascarpone, dark rum, espresso, chantilly cream, dark cocoa

House Crafted Cookie Plate – Palazolla family recipes

The tiramisu served at The Venu was one of the most delicious tiramisu’s that I have ever had. Great job guys!

What a night, I tell ya. I hope I have given you some ideas on what you would like to try when you visit. When you do go, be sure to tell Chef Kelley that your friend Denise from Savor Our City sent ya.

The Venu is located at 8794 West Boynton Beach Blvd. Boynton Beach, FL 33472  561.200.0222

Until we eat (and drink) again…

I send you delicious wishes, xo

Dessert and Bubbles Party

04/25/18

Josie’s Ristorante, located in Boynton Beach, is family owned and operated, and known for their traditional Italian cuisine.  Tonight I had the pleasure of attending a Dessert and Bubbles Party.

We were welcomed by Chef Mark Militello, a James Beard Award-Winning chef and Sebastiano Setticasi, co-owner and chef de cuisine.  This event was all about Ashley Roehrig, Josie’s pastry chef, who is a graduate of The Culinary Institute of America.  Tonight she was showcasing several of her delicious dessert creations.

Chef Ashley first teased us with trays of individual bites created from her tasty desserts.

This included Key Lime Pie, Chocolate Peanut Butter Pie, Coconut Pie, 16 Layer Chocolate Cake and Tiramisu.   After we sampled these, she presented some of the full sized desserts, as they are served to customers.  We started with the aroma of fresh from the oven Banana Fosters Bread Pudding.  Truly a wonderful combination with the fluffy whipped cream oozing over the warm bread pudding with candied pecans and creamy bananas foster, which was perfectly adorned with chocolate.  (Chocolate should be a required decorative addition to every dessert.)

Our next dessert delight was the Key Lime Pie.  It was a sweet representation of the creamy key lime custard then topped with fresh raspberries and blueberries nestled in whipped cream.  My mouth was happy to enjoy one of the most famous South Florida desserts.

Then we were presented the Chocolate Peanut Butter Pie.  It was rich and creamy and the perfect blend of sweet and savory.  The Tiramisu was light and melt in your mouth, and yes with a special chocolate spoon.  The Italian Wedding Cake was amazing.

I saved the best for last, if you are a chocolate lover that is.  It was the 16 Layer Chocolate Cake.  Sixteen sweet layers of chocolate cake alternated with chocolate frosting goodness.  It made my chocolate inner child smile.

Josie’s Ristorante is located in the Riverwalk Plaza at the southeast corner of Woolbright Road and Federal Highway.  They have been serving homemade Italian fare in Boynton Beach for 26 years, making this a destination dining location.

Hello Foodie Friends,

Today I share with you a new restaurant opening in the heart of Boynton Beach… Baciami Italiano, (Italian for ‘kiss me’) is an authentic Italian dining destination owned by father and son restaurateur duo Steven Pellegrino, Sr., and Steven Pellegrino, Jr., of Delray Beach’s famed Prime Steak & Seafood and Il Bacio Restaurant & Night Club. Introducing a revolving menu of weekly specials, including daily happy hour (Offering an expansive selection of wines, beers and cocktails), Ladies’ Pie & Wine Night, Family Dinner and Maine Lobster specials. Baciami Italiano is the “new place to be” in Boynton Beach!

In addition to these offerings, Baciami features an imported authentic Neapolitan pizza oven to cook pizza in under 3 minutes and a diverse Italian menu orchestrated by classically-trained Chef, Anthony Ianniello – all served up with unparalleled hospitality.

There are many ways in which you can enjoy your experience at Baciami Italiano; dine al fresco on their patio or take a seat at their cozy bar or choose to sit in the main dining area which can accommodate party sizes ranging from couples to large family gatherings. The restaurant also offers additional private dining space for groups of 25 – 60 people, including a private dining room with built in audio visual capabilities and a private lounge area for social dining experiences.

I recently attended a media dinner to check this new dining destination out. Here’s what we had:

Left to Right:  Roasted Fig Wood Burning Brick Oven Pizza topped with caramelized onions and creamy goat cheese.  The Works with meatballs, sausage, baked eggplant, fire roasted sweet peppers & mozzarella; Rabe & Sausage made with sauteed broccoli rabe, roasted garlic, sweet Italian sausage, mushrooms & shaved Romano.

This was an adaptation of the Baciami or “Kiss Me” at Sunset cocktail. Not on the regular menu, but available to those in the know. Ask for it at the bar or have your server bring one to you in the main dining room. I substituted the Campari for Prosecco. It’s not only pretty, but it’s delicious!

The Cutting Board: an assortment of artisan cheeses, cured meats, candied walnuts & olives.

Stuffed mushrooms: sausage, broccoli rabe, sharp provolone. The flavors were absolutely amazing!

Shrimp Oreganato: grilled white beans, escarole, Italian bread

Meatball Parmigiana: made with Kobe beef, veal, and a small amount of ground pork, brick oven roasted peppers and topped with shaved Romano.

Baked eggplant Parmesan. They only bake their eggplant; never fry.

Veal Chop Milanese with arugula, baby tomatoes, truffle oil, shaved Romano.

Dolce: Anthony’s Tiramisu, Carrot Pecan Cake (for 2), Cannoli, Creme Brule, NY Cheesecake, Chocolate Mousse Cake, Frutti di Bosco (fruit cream tart), Strawberries zabaglione.

Strawberries zabaglione. Zabaglione is an Italian dessert, or sometimes a beverage, made with egg yolks, sugar, and a sweet wine. Some people like to add some spirits, such as cognac. The dessert version is a light custard, whipped to incorporate a large amount of air.

Adult milkshake made with 1/2 shot of Frangelico, 1/2 shot of Bailey’s, lowfat milk (why bother with the lowfat?!? lol), chocolate syrup, a scoop of chocolate ice cream and fresh whipped cream.

Other menu highlights include Grilled Octopus with baby arugula, white beans, potato, Anthony’s Sunday Gravy with meatballs, sausage, braciole, Guiseppe Coco jumbo rigatoni, Chicken Milanese with arugula, baby tomatoes, truffle oil. Guests of Baciami will find a diverse list of imported and domestic wines by the glass and by the bottle to complement their dining selection.

Hours are 4:30 – 10:30 p.m. Sunday – Thursday and 4:30 p.m. – 1 a.m. Friday – Saturday. For more information, visit www.baciamiitaliano.com or call 561-810-5538.

Hello Foodie Friends,

Today I am here to tell you about an awesome new BBQ restaurant called Pig-sty BBQ, which recently opened after a complete overhaul of the current space on Boynton Beach Blvd, just west of 95, by my friends Elliot Harris and award-winning Pitmaster Chef Bryan Tyrell.

Elliot and Chef Bryan teamed up to open this their first/flagship Pig-sty BBQ in Boynton Beach, FL with plans to open two additional locations in South Florida by the end of the 2017.  They are passionate about South Florida development, and their vision is to grow alongside the community. “We built Pigsty to bring affordable quality food to the people of South Florida in a fun environment. Bring the kids, bring friends, have a beer and enjoy true classic BBQ prepared by our rock star BBQ chef,” stated Harris.

Pigsty BBQ is also a feast for the eyes. Aaron Moreno, of Palm Beach Driftwood, transformed the interior using 100 percent reclaimed wood to capture the true feel of a Southern BBQ joint. Harris, an accomplished artist, lined the wall with some of his favorite movie quotes and original pieces of art from his collection. The staff is friendly and accommodating, and the food melts in your mouth. Live bands perform every Thursday through Saturday with a top-notch state-of-the-art sound and lighting system. Pigsty BBQ is open seven days per week for lunch and dinner. The menu will expand to breakfast in early 2017.

Parents are raving about the options for children. Harris, being a father of three, knows that eating out with small children can be a challenge. It is for this reason that he created the kid’s corner. It offers a virtual gaming system where kids can choose from a plethora of game options where they can actually step into the game as well as other classics such as a Ms. Pac Man machine with 60 Atari games for the older youth.

Hello Foodie Friends,

Earlier this month I attended the Boynton Beach Food Wine & Brew Festival and that is where I first heard of Josie’s. Then shortly after that, I received an invite from their PR firm, The Buzz Agency to attend a media dinner there to preview some of their new menu items. For some, these items might be new, but to me, they were ALL new, as this was my first time dining there.

Josie’s Ristorante, a family owned and operated traditional Italian restaurant, was established in 1992 and is located on the southeast corner of Woolbright and Federal next to the Intracoastal bridge and is known for their pasta, gourmet pizza, fish, steak and Osso Bucco.

The atmosphere was open and bright and welcoming. I could see our group gathered beside the bar in the back as I entered.  An assortment of passed hors d’oeuvres, wine and cocktails were generously a’flowin’.  We sampled the Sicilian Pistachio Cracker (tuna tarter with a whipped pistachio topping which kind of resembled guacamole both in color and texture, only a little airier, and drizzled with tangerine oil), Prosiutto, Asparagus, Pecorino rolled inside crispy pastry rolls, House cured Salmon served atop char grilled ciabatta crostini slathered with a schmear of goat cheese. Beautiful pieces of Grandma’s Pizza were presented, each containing generous chunks of slow roasted Roma tomatoes, Buffalo mozzarella and basil.

Josie’s dinner menu includes a variety of antipasti, salads, pastas, fish, Panini, and specialties including stuffed dolphin, rack of lamb, Red Childe Grilled Hatfield Natural Pork Chop, simple grilled salmon, and Tortellini di Bologna.  Their signature dishes include Eggplant Stefania (grilled eggplant, stuffed with angel hair, garlic & oil, marinara, mozzarella, $22), chicken or veal prepared Marsala, Pizziola, Piccata or Francese (chicken $19, veal $26), and Veal Bersaglieri (scaloppini, garlic, marinated artichokes, olives, capers, roasted bell peppers, white wine and lemon sauce, spaghetti pomodoro). Recently they revamped their lunch, bar and dinner menus with new menu items including San Francisco Cioppino (clams, lobster, scallops, calamari in a spicy lobster saffron broth over linguini: MKT), Prime Short Rib Meatball (antipasti menu: $14), Spanish Octopus (wood grilled octopus, fingerling potatoes roasted onions, tomatoes, capers, evoo, Antipasti menu, $14), and Fresh Burrata (red & gold beets, Barolo poached pears, arugula, herb balsamic dressing, toasted crostini, (pictured below; antipasti menu, $12).

Our group was invited to sit down and enjoy the next few courses. We were given our choice of appetizers from the following: Ceviche, Baked Stuffed Clams, Fresh Burrata, Prime Short Rib Meatball and Seared Diver Scallops. I chose the Fresh Burrata and my companion chose the Ceviche which was made with lobster, bay scallops, shrimp, tuna and crab meat with orange, lime and avocado.

For our next course, we were served a trio of pasta dishes:  Porcini Ravioli, Chicken Rigatoni and a Crab & Shrimp Crepe (although technically, I don’t think you can consider a crepe pasta).

For our entrees, we were given a choice of the Fresh Catch of the Day (Swordfish), Pan Roasted Branzino, Veal Scallopini, Chicken Milanese, Chicken Piccata, Crispy Roast Duck and Roast Stuffed Loin of Hatfield Pork. So many wonderful choices it was hard to make up my mind. I selected the Chicken Milanese and my companion ordered the Swordfish. Portions are quite large that I had enough for the next day too (bonus!)

For desserts we were brought out their key lime pie, a butterscotch budino and a peach tiramisu with pistachio gelato. Boy were these good, but my favorite was the butterscotch budino. Note: must dig down deep into the cup to pull up the chocoloate cookie crumbles from the bottom to be enjoyed with each bite…
