Corporate food tours are an exciting and innovative way to unite teams, enhance collaboration, and create lasting memories. Whether you aim to reward employees, build stronger connections, or simply explore new cuisines, a well-planned food tour can be the perfect solution. From vibrant street food scenes to gourmet dining experiences, the right destination can turn a routine team-building event into an unforgettable journey.

This guide will walk you through planning a corporate food tour and highlight the top destinations that satisfy food lovers and team bonding objectives.

Why Choose a Food Tour for Team Bonding?

A corporate food tour is much more than just eating great food. It offers several benefits that contribute to a productive and motivated workplace, including:

  • Enhanced Collaboration: Shared experiences promote camaraderie and better communication, especially around food.
  • Cultural Exposure: Exploring diverse cuisines provides insight into different cultures, encouraging an open-minded team.
  • Relaxed Atmosphere: Unlike formal meetings or structured events, food tours offer a laid-back setting where employees can connect organically.
  • Memorable Experiences: Unique food experiences make employees feel valued, boosting morale and job satisfaction.
  • Exploration of Local Hotspots: Whether in your home city or an international destination, a food tour provides a fresh perspective on a place.
  • With these benefits in mind, let’s dive into the key steps of organizing a successful corporate food tour.

Steps to Planning a Corporate Food Tour

Define Your Objectives

Before picking a destination, determine what you want to achieve. Are you looking to improve teamwork? Celebrate a milestone? Reward employees? Your objectives will guide decisions on location, type of food experiences, and itinerary structure.

Choose the Right Destination

Selecting a destination depends on factors like budget, accessibility, and team preferences. Do you want a local food tour or an international culinary adventure? Consider destinations known for their food culture and variety.

Decide on a Budget

Food tours can range from affordable street food experiences to high-end dining escapades. Outline a clear budget, factoring in travel, accommodations, meals, and any additional activities.

Select the Type of Food Tour

There are different formats to explore:
• Guided Food Tours: Ideal for first-time visitors to a city, offering expert insight into the best local food spots.
• DIY Food Crawls: A customized experience where your team visits selected eateries on their schedule.
• Cooking Classes: A hands-on team-building activity where employees learn to prepare local dishes.
• Fine Dining Experiences: A sophisticated approach that combines gourmet meals with a relaxed networking atmosphere.

Create an Itinerary

A well-balanced itinerary should include a mix of casual and upscale dining, cultural experiences, and free time for exploration. Ensure there’s variety to accommodate different dietary preferences and restrictions.

Arrange Transportation and Accommodations

If the tour involves travel, organize transportation and accommodations early. Consider locations with easy access to food districts or central city areas.

Make Reservations in Advance

Popular food spots can get booked quickly. Secure reservations well in advance, especially for group dining experiences.

Add Fun Elements

Make the tour more engaging with food challenges, scavenger hunts, or interactive tastings.

Gather Feedback

Post-tour feedback will help assess the event’s impact and improve future team-building experiences.

Hello Foodie Friends,

I recently had the distinct pleasure of attending the Discover Napa Valley Tasting Pavilion event held on Saturday, January 18th, Hosted on the lush lawn of The Boca Raton, this afternoon affair truly captured the essence of Napa Valley’s winemaking excellence paired with South Florida’s vibrant culinary scene. It was an event that I won’t soon forget.

Artisans of Wine & Food Series

The event was part of the Artisans of Wine & Food series (full details here), Set against the stunning backdrop of the resort’s iconic architecture and perfectly manicured grounds, This event was a true feast for the senses. Guests were invited to explore the very best of Napa Valley’s renowned wineries, offering a rare opportunity to meet and interact with the talented winemakers behind these exceptional bottles.

The winemakers’ passion for their craft was palpable. Each winemaker shared their stories, offering insights into their craft, the unique terroirs of Napa Valley, and the meticulous care that goes into every bottle

As I made my way from table to table, I enjoyed learning about the nuances of their wines—how the unique terroir of Napa Valley, combined with innovative techniques and time-honored traditions, yields such distinctive flavors. Whether it was a velvety Cabernet Sauvignon, a crisp Sauvignon Blanc, or a beautifully balanced Merlot, each pour was a reminder of why Napa Valley remains one of the most celebrated wine regions in the world.

The event wasn’t just about tasting; it was about celebrating the incredible synergy between Napa Valley’s world-class wines and the local culinary scene in South Florida. The Discover Napa Valley Tasting Pavilion was a beautiful reminder of how food and wine have the power to create connections and unforgettable moments.

Local South Florida restaurants such as Le Sorelle, Oceans 234 and Stage Kitchen & Bar elevated the experience with their expertly crafted bites, each designed to complement the wines on offer, creating an extraordinary tasting journey. From rich, savory morsels to light, flavorful fare, every bite was a testament to the culinary talent in the region.

The atmosphere was as lively as it was elegant. Guests strolled from table to table, wine glasses in hand, savoring each sip and bite while engaging in conversations with the passionate artisans who brought the experience to life. There was a palpable sense of community and celebration, a shared appreciation for the finer things in life.

For me, the highlight of the event was the opportunity to interact with the winemakers. Their passion, dedication, and storytelling brought the wines to life, turning each sip into an experience that went beyond the glass. It wasn’t just about the flavors—it was about understanding the journey from vineyard to bottle and the heart that goes into creating these masterpieces.

As the afternoon drew to a close, I couldn’t help but feel grateful for the chance to be part of such a thoughtfully curated event. The Discover Napa Valley Tasting Pavilion wasn’t just a tasting—it was a celebration of the artistry of winemaking and the magic of food and wine pairing.

If you’re a wine enthusiast or a foodie looking for a truly immersive experience, I can’t recommend this event enough. Be sure to check out the Artisans of Wine & Food series for future events (details here). Whether you’re discovering new wines, savoring incredible food, or simply enjoying the company of fellow enthusiasts, it’s an experience that will leave you inspired—and a little in love with Napa Valley all over again.

Cheers to good wine, great food, and unforgettable moments!

Until we eat (& drink) again…

I send you delicious wishes, xo

As we approach World Food Day on October 16, it’s the perfect moment to celebrate the evolving landscape of dining and cooking in the U.S. With rising food costs, foodies are seeking ways to enjoy gourmet experiences without stretching their wallets. Fortunately, WalletHub has just released its report on 2024’s Best Foodie Cities in America, revealing where you can indulge in exceptional flavors while staying budget-conscious.

Top Foodie Cities in America

  1. Miami, FL
  2. San Francisco, CA
  3. Orlando, FL
  4. Portland, OR
  5. Tampa, FL
  6. Sacramento, CA
  7. Las Vegas, NV
  8. Seattle, WA
  9. Denver, CO
  10. San Diego, CA
  11. Atlanta, GA
  12. St. Louis, MO
  13. Los Angeles, CA
  14. Austin, TX
  15. Pittsburgh, PA
  16. New York, NY
  17. Richmond, VA
  18. Chicago, IL
  19. Fort Lauderdale, FL
  20. Washington, DC

These cities provide an array of food experiences, from Michelin-starred restaurants to vibrant local food festivals, making them a must-visit for culinary enthusiasts.

Planning a group gathering in one of these cities and want to experience it with a hands on cooking class or culinary tour?

Miami Tops the List

Claiming the number one spot, Miami is a foodie haven. Known for its diversity of flavors and an array of highly-rated, affordable restaurants, the city offers everything from casual dining to fine cuisine. Food lovers can enjoy 14 Michelin-starred restaurants, including the renowned L’Atelier de Joël Robuchon, which holds two stars.

For those who prefer to cook at home, Miami ranks third for farmers’ markets and offers the most kitchen supply stores per capita, making it a paradise for home chefs as well.

Best vs. Worst Cities for Food Lovers

  • St. Louis leads the nation in the number of gourmet specialty-food stores per capita.
  • Miami boasts the highest number of restaurants per capita—20.8 times more than Pearl City, Hawaii, the city with the fewest.
  • Cape Coral, FL has the highest ratio of full-service restaurants to fast-food establishments.
  • Orlando, FL has the most ice cream and frozen yogurt shops per capita, making it ideal for those with a sweet tooth.

These statistics highlight the varying culinary landscapes across the U.S., showcasing cities that provide rich dining experiences and gourmet options for every taste and budget.

Expert Tips for Foodies on a Budget

With inflation on the rise, foodies are becoming more strategic about how they spend their money. Experts suggest comparing restaurant menu prices with the cost of ingredients to decide whether it’s better to dine out or recreate a dish at home.

Nader Sharkes, a culinary instructor at Contra Costa College, recommends looking for local restaurant promotions and seasonal discounts to get the most value from your dining experiences.

For those who prefer to eat out while staying health-conscious, it’s important to plan ahead. Reading menus in advance and making modifications, like controlling portion sizes or requesting healthier ingredients, allows you to enjoy your favorite meals guilt-free. James A. Williams, Ph.D., from the University of Tennessee Knoxville, suggests drinking water before dining and snacking on protein-rich foods to curb hunger and prevent overspending.

Dining Trends for 2024

Dining habits in 2024 are shifting toward more casual, affordable options. With inflation pushing people away from multi-course dining, fast-casual restaurants and tasting menus are becoming increasingly popular. These options allow diners to sample a variety of dishes without the hefty price tag, making it easier to explore new flavors.

Health-conscious diners are also influencing the culinary scene. Many are choosing to eat at home, but restaurants have an opportunity to attract this group by offering meals that cater to specific dietary needs, including macro-friendly options. Restaurants that adapt to these trends and provide affordable, health-conscious meals will thrive in 2024.

Whether you’re a seasoned foodie or just looking for new culinary adventures, there’s a city on this list for you. From fine dining to local festivals, these cities are at the forefront of America’s culinary revolution. Indulge in your love of food while keeping your wallet—and your health—in check.

At Savor Our City, we are more than thrilled to be at the forefront of organizing, booking and embarking on such journeys. Read on for our insights and predictions on this burgeoning trend.

Local food exploration offers an unparalleled way to immerse oneself in a culture, destination, or community. With today’s travelers leaning towards experience-driven tourism, it’s no surprise that food tourism is emerging as a leading trend in 2024 and beyond. From 2024 to 2030, food tourism is projected to be the fastest-growing segment of luxury travel, with an annual growth rate of 7.6%. This segment attracts travelers across generations, offering experiences such as sampling unique foods, dining at Michelin-starred restaurants, and participating in culinary events like cooking classes and food festivals.

As culinary tourism continues to grow, it’s clear that travelers are more eager than ever to explore local flavors and dining experiences. Here’s what recent surveys by Hilton, American Express, and Visa reveal about the evolving preferences of food-loving travelers:

Hunger For Local Flavors

A significant 81% of travelers are most excited about sampling local foods and cuisines when they visit a new destination. The allure of tasting authentic dishes is a major draw, making it a top priority for many..

The Thrill of the New

Travelers are adventurous when it comes to their palates, with 79% enjoying the experience of trying completely new food options during their trips. Whether it’s a street food delicacy or a regional specialty, the excitement of discovering new flavors is undeniable.

Culinary Adventures on the Rise

In 2023, dining at local restaurants topped the list of favorite culinary activities for over half of global travelers. Following closely were food festivals (46%), local food tours (41%), and wine tastings (39%), highlighting the diverse ways people choose to immerse themselves in the food culture of a destination.

Big Spenders on Culinary Experiences

When it comes to budgeting for food tourism, Gen Z and Baby Boomers are expected to allocate the highest amounts, signaling their commitment to experiencing the best culinary offerings. These generations are willing to invest in premium dining and immersive food experiences.

If you have ever attended one of our culinary events, you know the experience is much more than a journey for your taste buds; we organize culinary adventures that immerse you in the rich flavors, traditions, and cultures of destinations across the United States and around the world. Whether you’re shopping for fresh ingredients with a local chef, harvesting produce, or enjoying family-style meals in vibrant international settings, you pick the location and our experiences offer a unique way to connect with places and people through food. Here are just some of the exciting custom group culinary experiences we can create for you:

Shopping with a Chef: A Taste of Local Markets – Imagine starting your day with a chef-guided tour of a bustling local market. In cities like New York, San Francisco, or even Paris, this experience allows you to see, smell, and taste the freshest ingredients while learning about the local food culture. Chefs often share insider tips on selecting the best produce, meats, and spices, providing a truly hands-on experience. Afterward, you’ll head back to the kitchen to transform these ingredients into a gourmet meal.

Cooking with a Chef: Hands-On Culinary Mastery – Taking a cooking class with a local chef is a hallmark of culinary tourism. Whether it’s mastering pasta-making in Tuscany or perfecting gumbo in New Orleans, these experiences offer more than just recipes. You learn techniques passed down through generations and gain a deeper understanding of the cultural significance of the dishes. Cooking with a chef isn’t just about food—it’s about connection, culture, and creativity.

Harvesting Produce: Farm-to-Table Adventures – For those who want to get even closer to their food, harvesting produce to cook with a chef offers a farm-to-table experience like no other. In states like California, Vermont, or Oregon, you can join chefs on farms or vineyards, picking the freshest fruits, vegetables, and herbs. These ingredients become the stars of your meal, highlighting the importance of sustainability and seasonality in cooking.

Family-Style Dining: Sharing and Savoring Together – Family-style dining experiences are a perfect way to connect with others over a shared love of food. In places like Italy’s countryside or the American South, meals are served in large portions, encouraging diners to share and enjoy a variety of dishes. This communal dining style not only allows you to taste more flavors but also fosters a sense of togetherness and community, making the meal even more memorable.

Immersive and Experiential Dining: A Feast for the Senses – For a dining experience that goes beyond the plate, immersive and experiential dining is a must-try. These events often blend food with art, theater, or storytelling, creating a multi-sensory experience. In cities like Chicago or Barcelona, you might find yourself dining in complete darkness, attending a pop-up dinner in an unexpected location, or enjoying a meal paired with live music and performance. These experiences challenge traditional notions of dining, making the meal an unforgettable event.

Food Tours and Foodie Field Trips: Exploring Culinary Landscapes – No culinary tourism experience is complete without food tours and foodie field trips in iconic cities across the nation and abroad. Whether it’s a tapas tour in Barcelona, a pizza pilgrimage in Naples, or a barbecue trail in Texas, these adventures allow you to explore a city’s culinary landscape one bite at a time. Led by local experts, these tours provide a comprehensive view of how food is intertwined with the local culture, economy, and history. You might find yourself visiting local breweries in Colorado, touring chocolate factories in Belgium, or sampling street food in Bangkok. Along the way, you’ll uncover hidden gems, historic eateries, and renowned restaurants, each offering a unique taste of the city’s food culture that might otherwise be missed.

Quite simply, Culinary tourism is a celebration of the diverse and delicious world of food. Each experience offers a unique window into the heart of a culture. By immersing yourself in these culinary adventures, you’ll not only satisfy your appetite but also gain a deeper connection to the places you visit and the people who call them home.

I can’t wait to see where this dynamic and delicious trend takes us. We at Savor Our City are looking forward to exploring the future of food tourism with you. So, pack your bags, bring your appetite, and let us book a culinary journey that will tantalize your taste buds and enrich your travel experiences. Bon appétit!

Hello Foodie Friends,

I recently traveled to New York on business to arrange a charter boat for a corporate group of 200 people who wanted to see the city’s iconic sights from the water. We set sail from one of the marinas in Brooklyn, and the highlight of the trip was the breathtaking view of the Statue of Liberty.

During my stay, I lodged at the Sonesta Shelbourne in a lovely suite with a great view of Midtown East. The hotel’s adjacent restaurant, Take Care, an IGC (In Good Company) Hospitality restaurant, served up a delightful lunch. The crispy artichokes and truffle mushroom pizza were particularly memorable!

Have you been to a Puttery? This is next-level mini-golf. I was so impressed that I dedicated an entire post to it.

Exploring New York’s Food Halls

As a food hall enthusiast, I had the chance to visit three amazing food halls during this trip.

Chelsea Market

I explored the downstairs floor of this iconic food hall for the first time, which seemed to be the preferred shopping area for locals, unlike the bustling main floor. I particularly liked the Italian market & the Asian market.

Time Out Market in Dumbo

After enjoying the views of the Brooklyn and Manhattan bridges from Brooklyn Park, I headed to Time Out Market. The array of food stalls was impressive, and I opted for an arepa that was simply delicious.

Preview of A Taste of Harlem

I met with our new local tour guides for a preview of an upcoming tour I’m working on: A Taste of Harlem. We sampled food and drinks from three restaurants owned and operated by the Lido Group, each with its own distinct atmosphere. I loved them all!

Plant-Based Dining at Anixi

Curious about plant-based cuisine, I dined at Chef Guy Vaknin’s Anixi, a 100% vegan restaurant. Chef Vaknin’s culinary creations are nothing short of genius. Even though I’m not vegan, I’m always eager to try the masterpieces of talented chefs. He has several restaurants in the city, each with a unique concept, all 100% vegan. I had a couple of their signature cocktails (the Crystal Clear and Off the Coast) along with a labneh appetizer which were all outstanding. Check out this incredible piece of “meat.”

Upcoming Tour in Little Italy and Chinatown

I wrapped up my trip with a visit to Little Italy and Chinatown, where we will soon be offering a tour and cooking class. Stay tuned for more details in a future newsletter.

New York never ceases to amaze me with its vibrant food scene, diverse neighborhoods, and endless opportunities for unique experiences.

Until next time, happy exploring!

Until we eat & drink again…

I send you delicious wishes, xo

Hello Foodie Friends,

On October 12th I had the pleasure to assist to the 10th anniversary edition of the Moss Foundation “Eat Your Heart Out” presented by BBI to benefit Heart Gallery of Broward County at Galleria Fort Lauderdale.

The Eat Your Heart Out Culinary Soiree is an annual event that combines the love for food and the passion for making a difference in the lives of children. This event, organized by Heart Gallery, aims to raise funds and awareness for their mission of finding loving families for kids in need.

At this year’s event, the Heart Gallery of Broward County proudly honored Michael Goodman as the Child Advocate of the Year. Goodman’s unwavering dedication to improving the lives of foster youth has made a significant impact in the community. Through his tireless efforts, remarkable achievements have been made in finding permanent, loving homes for children in need. The recognition of Goodman’s outstanding contributions serves as a reminder of the importance of nurturing and supporting our future generations.

By bringing together renowned chefs, top restaurants, and individuals passionate about making a difference, Eat Your Heart Out creates every year a unique platform to celebrate the culinary arts while supporting a noble cause. This year event was an unforgettable culinary experience, with the finest restaurants in Broward County reunited to showcase their culinary prowess. This culinary event was a diverse array of cuisines, from exotic flavors to classic favorites, carefully crafted by some of the most talented chefs in the region. From mouthwatering appetizers to delectable desserts, every bite was a testament to the culinary artistry and creativity on display.

Here are the finest food & beverage participants that attended to this culinary experience:

I had the delightful opportunity to savor a myriad of exquisite dishes, each a culinary masterpiece. Among the culinary gems, three dishes stood out upon my personal taste, leaving an indelible impression on my palate and senses. My top three dishes at the culinary event were a symphony of flavors, a culinary journey that I won’t soon forget and I’m glad to share pictures of these delicious dishes with all of you:

#3 Tulio’s Tacos – Wilton Manors

Their guac was fresh and flavorful and they sure didn’t skimp on the lobster in their tasty tacos!

#2 Hellenic Republic – located in The Walk at University in Coral Springs

Their braised/shredded lamb was by far the most delicious bite of lamb I ever had the pleasure of tasting; served over perfectly cooked & season mashed potatoes.

#1: Takato’s – located in the Conrad Hotel Ft Laud Beach

Serving Japanese Korean Fusion cuisine, this bite of Wagyu they served melted in my mouth. The quality of this cut of beef and the simplicity in how it was treated let the product speak for itself.

From the moment I walked through the doors, I was greeted by an electric atmosphere filled with laughter, music, and the aromas of delectable dishes. I engaged in lively conversations with fellow food enthusiasts, network with like-minded individuals, and immerse myself in the spirit of giving back to the community.

By attending the Eat Your Heart Out Culinary Soiree, I didn’t only treat myself to an unforgettable culinary experience but also contribute to finding loving families for foster youth. Together, we can make a real difference in the lives of these children and give them the love and stability they deserve.

Until we eat (and drink) again…

I send you Delicious Wishes, xo
